Jano Rix has been the third member of The Wood Brothers for more than a decade, playing drums, keyboards and percussion and singing alongside brothers Oliver and Chris Wood. The trio’s One Drop of Truth was nominated for Best Americana Album at the 2019 Grammys, and they have kept up a steady run of albums and tours since, including Kingdom in My Mind (2020) and Heart Is the Hero (2023).
At UM Jano was a jazz piano principal who also played drums, and he was part of the Gabe Dixon Band, which formed at the university in 1998. After UM he leaned more and more toward the drums, his father’s instrument, and a wider range of styles, including experimental jazz in New York. In 2025 he and his father, drummer and percussionist Luther Rix (Bob Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Revue, Leonard Cohen, Bette Midler), released their first album together as RIX, Legacy, Vol. 1, a New Orleans-flavoured set on Royal Potato Family that was more than a dozen years in the making.
